Getting a good rubric

For open-ended work, ask for a rubric before students write — then share it with them. A useful request names the criteria and the number of levels:

Create a 4-level rubric (Exemplary / Proficient / Developing / Beginning)
for an 8th-grade paragraph explaining the causes of the American Revolution.

Criteria: claim, use of evidence, historical accuracy, and clarity.
Put it in a table and keep each cell to one sentence.

Verify the answer key AI sometimes marks a plausible-but-wrong option as correct, especially on tricky distractors. Check every answer before you hand the quiz out or import it into a self-grading form.
